Why a chestnut gate?

All our gates are made from durable sweet chestnut similar to oak yet more stable.  It does not require chemical treatment to prolong its life and naturally blends to a silver appearance.

The timber for our gates is harvested from chestnut coppice which requires felling to maintain the health of the coppice.  By using the timber for our gates this provides an outlet for the larger stems not useful for many of the traditional products due to its ‘over size’, thus helping to maintain woodlands in the south east of England.

Timber used is carefully selected, planed and chamfered to create a first class finish. Chestnut can also take stains and oils to prolong its natural colour. We can also apply initial coats of exterior wood oil and provide oil for further treatments.

Gate posts and ironmongery are available to produce the perfect finish.

A grant was attained to partly fund the equipment used to produce these gates via the Kent Downs and Marshes Leader Local Action Group, a delegated delivery body of SEEDA under the Rural Development Program for England (RDPE). The Grant was partly funded through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and through funding provided by DEFRA.
